Imagine that you are in a boat in the middle of the sea. Suddenly the boat flips over and you are dumped into the freezing water.

You can’t swim.

You splash frantically to stay afloat, but you are fighting a losing battle.

Finally exhausted, you start going under for the last time. Water starts entering your lungs. Your life flashes before your eyes.

But wait – a strong hand grabs you at the last second. You are pulled out of the water into a rescue boat.

Coughing and sputtering, your lungs burn as you gulp fresh air. Relief floods your body and you shudder at how close you came to death.

When you finally come to yourself, you look around the boat with one question on your mind:

“Who saved me?”

A similar question should be in the hearts of every Christian – a desire to know the One who saved us. After all, most people don’t return to “business as usual” after a near-death experience.

Instead, they have a renewed appreciation for life and the people they love. They vow to live with renewed energy and purpose.

Salvation always comes with a choice: “Do I choose to embrace my new life or keep on living as if I were not saved?”

In this article, you will learn about the meaning of the helmet of salvation in Spiritual warfare.

Your victory in life is found in a closer relationship with the One who saved you and knowing the blessings you have in Him.

If you don’t know about God’s best, you will always settle for less!

First, let’s review all the pieces of Spiritual armor:

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:14-16);”

To me, wearing the helmet of salvation means operating with the mind of Christ. Jesus was focused on fulfilling His father’s will. He even compared His mission with food!

Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work (John 4:34).”

I once saw a documentary about compulsive overeating in which one woman said, “Food is one of the first things I think about when I wake up. It’s one of the last things I think about before I go to bed.”

However as Christians, our minds should be preoccupied with the type of food that Jesus sought after. Why? Because while natural food enters the body and is eventually eliminated, doing the Father’s will yields heavenly rewards and Earthly blessings:

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days… (Deuteronomy 30:19-20)”

Unfortunately, because most people do not consciously choose life in their daily choices, so they end up with the default – which in a sin-filled world is not good!

Thank God, a Christian does not have to settle for the default. Here are just a few of the blessings for which God the Father has qualified you in Christ Jesus according to Ephesians 1, beginning with verse 3:

  1. You are blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.
  2. He chose you in Him before the foundation of the world, that you should be holy and without blame before him in love.
  3. You were adopted you as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself (yes, this applies to women too).
  4. You are redeemed through His blood.
  5. You are forgiven of sins.
  6. He has given you the riches of His grace in all abundance and prudence.
  7. He makes known to you the mystery of His will.
  8. He has given you an inheritance.
  9. He has sealed you with the Holy Spirit as a guarantee.
  10. He has made you alive in Christ.
  11. He has given you His peace.
  12. He has given you access to Him in Christ.
  13. He has made you a fellow citizen with the saints and the household of God.

Once you believe how valuable you are to God, then you will stop believing the enemy’s lies. He always tries to get you to settle for a life that is less than God wants for you.

Today, I recommend that you meditate upon your salvation. How has your life changed now versus how it was before you got saved? Has your life changed at all? If not, then I recommend that you review ‘How to Know God personally‘ to gain/regain the joy of your salvation.

The joy of the Lord is your strength!
