What to Do When Life Doesn’t Work

When your life isn’t working, it is easy to become discouraged. If you are in that place, I’ve got a word to encourage you today.

The other day I heard a pastor talking about Noah’s ark. He commented on the fact that God did not instruct Noah to put a series of windows in the sides of the ark, but to only put one window at the top. You see, God did not want Noah looking at the circumstances outside. Rather he wanted Noah to focus above – to recognize that God was with him and had him enclosed in safety.

In my prayer time, I was reminded this morning of Hebrews 11:3: “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”

During tough times, we need to press into God’s word that much harder. If the worlds were framed by the word of God, then wouldn’t it be wise to frame your personal world by the word of God? A frame encloses, shapes, and protects. Frames also display the beauty of the picture within to maximum effect.

If your inner world is not framed by the word of God, then all you have is the world’s viewpoint as your frame of reference. This will be reflected in your outer world. It will shape your attitude, your language, your actions and your behaviors – all displaying that viewpoint to ugly, maximum effect.

However, when you study God’s word, listen to it, meditate on it, and treasure it as much as you treasure physical food, you will start hanging your life on that. You’ll begin to build a new frame and because your new inner frame is in harmony with the same frame in which the worlds were built, you will experience more peace, love, and joy in your life.

You will gain new appreciation for the wonderful gift that you received when Jesus Christ became your Savior. Jesus himself is the word of God and he made it possible for you to have direct access to God. It was because of his great love for you that he gave up his life. The best thing that you can do to express gratitude to a gift giver is to USE the gift he gives you.

Ask yourself  right now – “Is my life framed by God’s word or the world and my flesh?”

What do you hang your actions on? What do you hang your decisions on? An easy way to find out is by the gauge of peace. If you have unrest in your spirit about any actions or habits that you are currently engaged in, then something is wrong. Jesus said he left his peace with you and in his peace you should labor to remain!

I say “labor” because the enemy will do everything possible to encourage you to keep your old frame of reference. He knows very well that without God’s word, life doesn’t work!
