“Good Works for God’s Glory” (Inspiring Story)

Matthew 5:16 inspires us to good works for God's glory:

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

As believers in Jesus, we can direct glory to our Heavenly Father in the smallest ways. Let me explain.

I was visiting my mother this morning. She is in her 80s, and when I see her each week, I usually run errands for her or clean up as needed.

One of my motivators for taking care of my health is this:

"I use my energy to make her life easier.”

Mom wanted the outside garbage container and a couple of bins filled with dried dog food cleaned.

So I woke up this morning before she did, wanting to surprise her with the completed jobs.

Since the garbage container was the heavier job, I put on rubber gloves, sprayed the container with bathroom cleaner foam inside to let it work, and then went on a morning walk.

When I returned, I scrubbed the containers with an extended cleaning brush, rinsed them, and let them air dry.

As I was sweeping off the front porch, Mom surprised me! She came to the front door and asked what I was doing.

I had no choice but to ruin my surprise and told her.

My dear Mom looked close to tears. She said, “I don’t know what to say.”

I raised my hand to Heaven and said: “Just praise the Lord. He put it on my heart to do it.”

And so she praised Him!

In what way will you glorify the Lord through good works today (service and purpose)?

Your energy can make someone else's life easier.

Today, let Matthew 5:16 inspire you to shine, directing the glory back to God:

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
