A Simple Prayer

I woke up with a simple prayer on my heart recently:

Lord, help me to know you better today than I did yesterday.”

This prayer captures the meaning of life itself. Take a moment to pray it with me.

Jesus Himself said John 17:3:

And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

If you miss that, you miss life!

In the book of Ecclesiastes, King Solomon wrote about the futility of making worldly things your sole pursuit. He indulged every fleshly appetite:

And whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I kept my heart from no pleasure, for my heart found pleasure in all my toil, and this was my reward for all my toil.”

Ecclesiastes 2:10

You can see Solomon’s reasoning for his indulgence: ”I work hard and I deserve it!” Sound familiar?

Yet, he found no lasting satisfaction in his pursuits. King Solomon concluded the book of Ecclesiastes with this truth:

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:
Fear God and keep His commandments,
For this is man’s all.
For God will bring every work into judgment,
Including every secret thing,
Whether good or evil.”

– Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

To me, “F.E.A.R” God means:

  • Following
  • Exalting
  • Acknowledging and
  • Respecting God enough to do what He says

This is a response to God’s grace! We obey God because we know Him as our Heavenly Father. We believe He loves us and His plans for us are good!

So why deprive ourselves of that good?

As the Lord answers the prayer to increase your knowledge of Him, you will embrace each day with excitement and expectation:

”Lord, I wonder how you will show yourself strong in my life today?”

My prayer for every believer in Jesus is that we will know God better each day than we did yesterday. I pray that we experience the Kingdom of God – righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit (see Romans 14:17).

Freedom from everything that binds you will be the result. Hallelujah!

  • Thank you Kimberly for that Word. I have been following you for a long time. You have helped me so much. One thing I would like to ask you about is I struggle with chronic migraines. When I get one I crave sweets. A lot of it has to do with trying to make myself feel better. I am in so much pain I’m just looking for relief. What do you suggest I do with these feelings? I also get very depressed with the pain all the time. It is definitely a battle for my mind! I appreciate any insight you can give me. Thank you, Ginger

Hi Ginger – I am glad that you’ve found the TBYT resources helpful! Although I am unable to give specific medical advice, I would search ‘migraine headaches natural remedies’ on Google to see what natural remedies are available to help and put each one to the test until I found a solution that helps me, not hurts me as the sweets can do. May the Lord heal you of this affliction!

      Kim
