Welcome to Take Back Your Temple (TBYT for short)! Our goal is simple – to assist Believers in Jesus Christ to grow Spiritually stronger and heal emotionally as you are losing weight.
During my own journey, I came to learn that releasing excess weight often goes beyond mere diet and exercise.
Many have suffered emotional hurts. A diet can never fix that. But the Great Physician can!
I spent years hiding out in food, relying upon it to comfort my hurts and disappointments, to stuff down my insecurity.
Even though I accepted Jesus as my Savior back in 1992, my life did not change for nine years. I went to church on Sunday, but put God back on the shelf Monday – Saturday.
However in 2001, I went to the Christian women’s conference that changed my life. There I discovered how much God loved me. The conference’s theme scripture became mine personally:
“The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing (Zephaniah 3:17).”
At that Christian women’s conference, I was 240 pounds and a size 22. Obesity was smothering the life out of me.
But once I received God’s love for me and replaced my weakness with His strength, my life was forever changed.
I lost the excess weight, dropping from a size 22 to a size 8. The best part is that I’ve maintained my weight loss for over 10 years! The scripture 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 inspired the name Take Back Your Temple:
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
TBYT is a prayer – asking God to take control of your life so He can use them for His purpose. It is an exciting journey. You use your weight loss experience to draw you closer to Him.
In that way, God can be glorified through it.
If weight loss is your goal too, then I have several resources to help you:
I believe excess weight is not about size ultimately. God’s love for you will not change whether you are a size 28 or an 8.
Instead, it is about stewardship; you recognize how valuable you are to God because His Spirit lives on the inside of you.
I pray that you grow in Spiritual fruit so that together, we can glorify our God in body and Spirit!
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23).”
In this way, others will taste and see that our Lord is good!
