Sometimes the challenges of the world can drain us dry! Whether it’s the news, social media, or life challenges like health, finances, or relationships, it can leave us feeling drained and weary.
What Does It Mean to Be Spiritually Refreshed?
Spiritual refreshing means renewing your relationship with God when you feel weary, dry, or disconnected. You experience peace, clarity, and strength through His presence. Acts 3:19 calls this a “time of refreshing” that comes from returning to the Lord.
“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” – Acts 3:19
How can you experience times of refreshing for yourself, especially in a busy, distracted world?
Let’s walk through six Biblical steps to help you reconnect with God and how to be spiritually refreshed.

1. Recognize the Dryness for What It Is
Not physically thirsty, but Spiritually and emotionally parched. The joy feels gone, your strength is low, and even prayer feels hard.
Spiritual dryness can show up in subtle ways:
- You feel distant from God
- Your Bible feels like a chore
- You are exhausted even after rest
- You go through the motions, but your heart is numb
These are not signs of failure. They are signals. God is inviting you to pause, reflect, and return to Him.
2. Return and Reconnect with God
The first step to spiritual refreshing is returning to God, not in shame, but in trust.
Acts 3:19 says it plainly:
“Repent and be converted… so that times of refreshing may come.”
Repentance simply means a change of heart and mind that results in a change of direction. You turning away from the distractions and turning toward your Father.
When you return, He receives you with grace and joy.
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” —James 4:8
3. Rest in His Presence
Stillness can feel uncomfortable at first. But it is often in silence and solitude that you begin to sense God’s nearness again.
Try this:
- Sit quietly with a worship song
- Read one Psalm slowly
- Take a walk and talk to God like a friend
These small practices make room for the Holy Spirit to speak life to your weary heart.
4. Let God’s Word Refresh You
God’s Word is not just for learning; it is for abundant life! Even a single verse, read prayerfully, can hydrate a dry soul.
Start with these:
- Psalm 23:1–3 – He restores my soul
- Isaiah 40:29–31 – He gives strength to the weary
- Matthew 11:28–30 – Come to Me and I will give you rest
- Romans 15:13 – Filled with joy and peace in believing
- John 7:37–38 – Rivers of living water
Let God’s truth reframe your thoughts and refill your spirit.
5. Cast Your Cares on the Lord
You do not have to carry everything alone.
“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7
If something is weighing you down, whether emotionally, mentally, or spiritually, bring it to God. Lay it down in prayer. Let Him lift what you were never meant to carry.
6. Ask for Renewal and Joy
David prayed:
“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.” – Psalm 51:12
You can pray that too. God delights in renewing your heart and reviving your hope.
Final Thought: You Do Not Have to Stay Spiritually Dry
Dry seasons happen. But you do not have to stay stuck in them.
God’s presence is a place of refreshing, and He is inviting you to return.
You can:
- Pause
- Reconnect
- Rest
- Receive
Let today be your turning point.
Let today be your time of refreshing.
