Complete Guide: How to Get Back on Track

So this weekend, my sister got married. Yippee! We had a wonderful time at the wedding. However, I got off track with my eating that day and needed to get back on track.
When I get off-track, I like to implement an African proverb:
'Don't look where you fell; look where you slipped.''
Proverbs 4:25-26 also tells us about the importance of examining our ways:
Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established.
So I mentally replay the problematic day to discover at which point I went off track. First of all, I had a really busy day. We had a teachers training at church all morning and I ate lunch with them. Hmm. Did I even track what I ate? I look at my phone to check. Oops, nothing is there. So I was off track from the very start of the day. Why? Because I never even got on one! In the analyzing what else happened yesterday, I don't believe the following would have made as much of an impact:
  • Driving out of town to attend the wedding
  • The wedding planned as being outdoors, but a late evening rain making us move things indoors
  • Ate well and danced at the wedding
  • Drove back into town that night
  • Came home and being tired.
  • Ate too much trail mix that was at home. It was an impulse buy when I went out shopping the other day.

Normally, it wouldn't be there because I know for me, keeping sweets and processed snack food in the home is a stumbling block that I trip over.

Overeating happens when impulse meets opportunity. If the trail mix hadn't been there, that would have removed the opportunity. If I had been tracking, that would have dampened the impulse because I would have thought twice about eating it. After all, it was already late. I didn't need to eat it. Instead, what I needed to do was go on to bed. Rest is the solution when you are tired. So I am back on track this morning. Why? Because I decided to get on one. To recover, I am prioritizing drinking water, which I realize I didn't do much of that day. I am also going to up my intake of green vegetables  - also a recovery tactic. And I will track because that keeps me on track. So I have some questions for you: If you are off-track, ask yourself - Was I ever on one? If you were on track, at which point did you get off?
