How to Listen to God

When I was six years old, I jumped off the roof of our house.

It was one of the memories that came back to me as I was meditating on the ways God has protected me over the years. Thanks to him, my naive attempt to fly only gave me strained back, not broken bones.

The reason I thought about that incident is because I am reading a book called “How to Listen to God” by Dr. Charles Stanley. I bought this book several years ago but had never read it completely. Isn’t it funny how you can sometimes avoid the knowledge that you need the most? I know it was fear that was keeping me from reading that book. Deep down, I knew that once I read it, I could no longer do “business as usual.” I would be accountable to use what I’d learned.

There’s a saying that if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got. Well, I want something different so I am ready to do something different. So I picked up the book.

In one part of the book, Dr. Stanley discusses the process of Christian meditation. As an example, he used King David and how approached his meditation time before the Lord:

1. He meditated on what God had done for him in the past.
2. He meditated on God’s character – His greatness, His grace, and His goodness.
3. He meditated on God’s promises.
4. He made his request to God – and sat still waiting for God’s counsel

I used this process and how powerful it is! I remembered incidents from my past that I haven’t thought about in years. I know I only got through because of the grace of God. I also can clearly see times when he protected me from danger and bad decisions.

As I meditated using the first three steps, I was smiling and felt deep gratitude for God’s faithfulness. By the time I made my request about a business dilemma I had, his voice came through very clearly with the answer. When I got up from my prayer, I felt a fullness in my heart that I have never experienced. I felt a renewed sense of confidence and optimism about the future.

Do you need a new beginning, a miracle, or a breakthrough in your life? Then take the above wisdom and apply it to your life. Better yet, read “How to Listen to God” yourself:

God loves you and He has your answer. It’s time that you breakthrough to a victorious life!

Be blessed with health, healing, and wholeness,
