Have you ever heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy? It’s when someone believes something will happen, and then it actually does because of their thoughts and actions.
For example, if you believe you can reach a healthy weight successfully, you might be more motivated to plan healthy meals and exercise regularly, which helps you reach your goal.
But if you think you’ll never be able to lose weight, you might give up easily or not even try, making it harder to see any progress. So, what we believe about our ability to succeed can affect the actions we take to get there.
Check out the following video to help renew your mind and avoid negative self-fulfilling prophecies.
Action Steps: Bible Journaling Prompt
For motivation, please pray and then answer the following questions as a Bible Journaling prompt to link your weight loss goal to your vision, values and daily priorities:
Why is it essential that you take steps to care for your body as God’s body temple?
- How will that help you give your best to your family and friends, plus inspire others to health?
- How will that give you energy to fulfill your purpose/mission in the Lord?
I recommend getting a writing journal or starting a free account at Penzu.com to write the answers. Review them regularly for encouragement on challenging days, plus serve as a release valve for stress and negative emotions.

P.S. Many of us learned to stuff our feelings down with food as children. It either wasn’t safe to express our emotions or we did not know how to manage them.
But now as adults, we don’t have to stuff any more! God gives us the power of choice (agency).
In one of our Zoom members sessions, “How to Stop Stuffing your Feelings” (replay inside of the Take Back Your Temple program), we discussed how to find your voice and manage your emotions in ways that honor God.
