Why you Struggle

This morning, I was working out and feeling energetic. So I decided to pick up a weight that was heavier than I use normally. Whew, it was tough! I was sweating like nobody's business. Let's face it - struggle isn't fun. Have you ever asked yourself in the midst of struggle, ''Why is this so hard?'' That question can come up not only when it comes to weight loss, but in trying to reach any goal. But here is a new way of looking at struggle so that you can finally get your blessing on the other side! In the midst of my struggle to lift the weight, I heard a voice inside of myself say something that changed my perspective. "Your struggle is a strength-building opportunity.'' Think about it. There is always tension between the person you are now and the person you want to be. Your job is to build a bridge between the two! If you never tried to do anything beyond your current ability, your mind nor body would have a reason to get better or stronger, would it? Many of us get stuck at asking ''Why is this so hard?'' Often, meditating on how hard it is becomes a reason for doing nothing. But think about some of the things you can do now just because you were willing to embrace the struggle of learning:
  • Touch type
  • Drive a car
  • Ride a bike
What else can you do now that was hard at first, but has become easier? You embraced the struggle and held on until you got what you wanted! You held on because you were convinced of the benefits of touch typing, driving, or riding a bike.  Plus, you could see yourself becoming successful at those things. Know this: If you don't have a strong enough reason to reach for your goal or can't see yourself change, then you will give up in the midst of struggle. After all, the struggle proved bigger than your desire for your goal. But if you make your desire for your goal stronger than the struggle, then you will succeed. Life is full of struggles. The Bible says that we are in a Spiritual battle, one of the Spirit warring against the flesh (see Galatians 5:16-17). However, the nature who prevails in the struggle is the one that you choose to feed! So embrace struggles. Stop resisting or avoiding them. You will get stronger and go far beyond where you are now, all the way to the blessing the Lord has for you!
Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed (Hebrews 12:11-13).''
