Wonder Working Power

To see God's power work within your life, you need to combat insurgent thoughts - those against God's word.
How can God's power be limited in your life? Wonder working power is possible according to one of my favorite scriptures in the Bible: Ephesians 3:20:
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us"
The words "according to the power that works in us" has always intrigued me. God's power is unlimited and the Holy Spirit is unlimited. So how can there be limitation? God gave me a parable yesterday to explain this. Suppose a poor country is under a corrupt government. The citizens recognize that the country is headed for disaster. Unable to save themselves, they ask for a new government to take over. The new government comes in, displacing the old one. The new government has written statutes that can bring the country peace, prosperity, and order. However, even though the old government no longer has authority over that country, there are still rebels (insurgents) in the country. These insurgents don't want change. They do not want to submit to the new government's authority. They do not want to give up the power they had in the corrupt government. So the insurgents do everything they can to sabotage the new regime. As long as the rebels are allowed to cause trouble, then the new regime's ability to affect the country will be limited. However, if the citizens of that country would stand against the insurgents, combat them, and cooperate with the new government, then the new government will be able to change the country. Eventually, the new government will stabilize and its statutes will guide the country into a better future. Here is the meaning of the parable: The country is our minds. We are the citizens. We were sinners in need of a Savior. God in His great mercy sent Jesus to save us. We asked Jesus to come into our hearts and He did. We are now under a new government:
He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1:13-14).
The rebels/insurgents are the thoughts that do not agree with God's word. Some people may see these insurgents as friends, even family. So they refuse to fight against them. Even though they have asked Jesus to be Lord over their lives, they still side with the insurgents. So God's power is limited in their lives. Jesus' government can never be a "puppet" government - in name only. A person who believes that is possible is only deceiving themselves. The key to a revolution is to decide whose side you are on - once and for all. The real you, your renewed spirit, always wants to agree with God's word. That is why it is important to study God's word (the new government's statutes) so that you can recognize an insurgent thought when you "hear" one! When you get an "insurgent" thought, don't agree with it. Take it captive to the obedience of Christ. Remind yourself of God's truth until it becomes part of you. The more insurgent thoughts you capture and the more you agree with God's word, the more His power will work within you. My prayer is that God's power will work within His people in greater measure than ever before - with signs following those who believe. In this way, our Lord Jesus will be glorified!
