Beware of January 17

Many people resolve to start a better life on New Years' Day. But did you know that most New Years resolutions made on January 1 are forgotten about by January 17? The reason is simple. The person making the resolution has not established a daily routine of remembering the habits to which they committed. Author Darren Hardy wrote my favorite definition of commitment:
Commitment is doing the thing you said you were going to do long after the mood in which you said it in has left you."
When the mood leaves most people, their daily routine distracts them from their goal. So they soon forget what they said was important to them. The Lord once shared with me this revelation: Forgetfulness is the enemy of faith. However, you can avoid the January 17th trap with these 3 steps: 1. Number your Days Your time on Earth is limited. Psalm 90:12 says,
So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom."
Did you know that you can number the days you've lived already - literally? Click here to get the exact number of days that you have lived so far When you see the abundance of days God has given you already, it makes you appreciate each day's value more. Now, some of you may feel sad when you see that number. However, while you can't change the days that have passed, you can thank God that He's given you this day to make a difference! And God willing, He will give you more opportunities for good days after this one. After seeing that God has granted me over 19,000 days already, it made me determined to stop wasting any more of mine. How about you? God created you on purpose and for a purpose. Best to get on with it. Each day the Lord gives you comprises your whole life. 2. Get a Vision A vision of the person you want to be is another way to prevent forgetfulness from sabotaging your faith. Vision takes faith and God-inspired imagination. Romans 4:17 says that God "...calls those things which do not exist as though they did;" That's the way our Lord gets things done. He is our example. Write down your vision for your future self. Call it forth through reading it out loud often. Keep it before your eyes to remember it. Remember those days you numbered in the previous step?
  • Each of the days you have lived has formed the person you are now.
  • Each of the days you will live will form the person you will become.
Here's a million dollar question: At the end of each day, are you any closer to the person you want to become? Set your daily priorities and actions to line up with the person you want to become. Remember, each day has its own challenges and opportunities. Never forget that the Lord is walking with you through them. Ask Him for wisdom in every situation. Ask Him for strength to do what He tells you. 3. See yourself changed. Many people make the mistake of thinking that change is not possible for them. But that is a lie from the pit of hell. According to Romans 12:2, we are transformed (changed) by the renewing of our minds. God would not have included that scripture that in His word if it were impossible for you to change. So just because you can't see yourself changing does not mean it is impossible. All that means is that you can't see it - yet! My prayer for you is that the Lord opens up your Spiritual eyes. Greater is He that is in you that he that is in the world. I also pray that you grow in wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior. In that way, you can see yourself with a better future on January 17 and beyond. You will then have the confidence to step into it - day by day. Kimberly Taylor Author/Christian Life Coach of the Take Back Your Temple program P.S.
