Living on Purpose, ( 2 Timothy 2 Bible Study, Part 3 – Farmer)

Here is Part 3 of my 2 Timothy 2 :3-7 Bible study, which focuses on a inspiring view of persevering as Jesus’ disciples, using the example of Soldier, Athlete, and Farmer. Today’s study focuses on the Farmer:

You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops. Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.

  • Farmer: We spread and live God’s word in the territory where He plants us. We operate with integrity, loving our neighbors as ourselves. His word is good seed and we pray that it falls on good ground. By faith, we expect to reap an abundant harvest in due season.

Bible Journal Question: How does anticipation of my future reward inspire me to keep sowing positive health seeds each day, like a farmer (Spiritually, mentally, and physically)?

If you have worked in farming, grown a garden or know someone who has/is, please share any thoughts about how they view their future harvest or flowers blooming in the Comments.

Kimberly Taylor

Kimberly Taylor is the founder of Take Back Your Temple, a Christ-centered ministry that helps Christian women experience freedom from emotional eating through Biblical wisdom.

After years of struggling with emotional eating and reaching 240 pounds, Kimberly lost more than 85 pounds and has maintained that loss for over 20 years. More importantly, she experienced lasting change as Scripture renewed her thinking and taught her to steward her body with wisdom rather than shame, pressure, or force.

Today, Kimberly helps women understand what emotional eating may be revealing, respond with Biblical truth and Spirit-led wisdom, and develop steady patterns of peace, freedom, and faithful stewardship.

Her work has been featured in Prevention Magazine, Charisma Magazine, and on CBN’s The 700 Club.

  • Renee Pitts says:

My neighbors grow gardens and they share with me the fruits of their labors. I walk everyday and I’m happy at the weight I’m losing. The other day one of the devotion I was listening to say “be strong don’t give up” when I’d hear it I’d said ok Lord help me not to give up. I will reap what I have sow.

    • Exactly, Renee! God’s word says, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap (Galatians 6:7). Just as we can’t plant corn seed and expect wheat, we can’t plant poor health habits and expect rich health results!
