Taking Sabotaging Thoughts Captive

The enemy wants to keep you trapped in the hellish space between regret and fear. You fear taking action ("what if..."), but then have regret over not taking action ("if only..."). It's a "no win" situation. The enemy's goal is to keep you stuck exactly where you are, wasting days, months and years, trapped on Someday Isle (as in "Some day I'll get it done..."). It's time to get rescued from Someday Isle. Today is your day! What keeps you trapped on Someday Isle is believing the enemy's lies. The image on the right shows you how to assess the thoughts you have. To get free from sabotaging thoughts, use the AAA (Triple A) guideline:
  • Awareness: Pay attention to the thoughts that enter your mind.
  • Arrest:  If you determine a thought is unproductive according to God's word (this is when you use the THOUGHTS process), then do not agree with it; replace it with God's truth.

Here is why this is important:

Many of us have experienced pain in our past. I have received messages from people who have suffered terrible things, like abuse, neglect, rape, or incest.

The Lord is able to heal all emotional wounds. Nothing is too hard for Him!

However, what the enemy wants is for the hurt person to nurse these hurts and use them as an excuse to practice destructive behavior.

He offers them false comfort with a high price tag.

As a result, the person ends up doing far more damage to themselves than the person who hurt them ever did.

The only way to break out of the cycle is to get a new identity in Christ as healthy, healed, and whole. A new identity requires new ways of thinking and acting.

Is this work? You bet it is! The mental work you will do with the Take Back Your Temple program is far greater than any physical work you will do. But when you have the mind of Christ and are led by the Spirit of God, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you! Kimberly Taylor

Kimberly Taylor is the founder of Take Back Your Temple, a Christ-centered ministry that helps Christian women experience freedom from emotional eating through Biblical wisdom.

After years of struggling with emotional eating and reaching 240 pounds, Kimberly lost more than 85 pounds and has maintained that loss for over 20 years. More importantly, she experienced lasting change as Scripture renewed her thinking and taught her to steward her body with wisdom rather than shame, pressure, or force.

Today, Kimberly helps women understand what emotional eating may be revealing, respond with Biblical truth and Spirit-led wisdom, and develop steady patterns of peace, freedom, and faithful stewardship.

Her work has been featured in Prevention Magazine, Charisma Magazine, and on CBN’s The 700 Club.
