My Story of Overcoming Emotional Eating as a Christian

When I battled emotional eating, food felt like a friend. But the truth was food kept me in bondage. One day, God showed me a better way. Through His Word, I found freedom. The healing journey of overcoming emotional eating and releasing excess weight with God’s help inspired me to create the Take Back Your Temple program.

The following video shares what is different about Take Back Your Temple.

Over the years, I’ve seen thousands of believers experience the same transformation: Breaking free from emotional eating and walking in health, healing, and wholeness with God’s help.

Christian-Based Programs for Overcoming Emotional Eating

When it comes to breaking free from emotional eating, most secular programs focus only on diet rules or willpower. While those might bring temporary results, they often miss the deeper issues of the heart and mind.

Christians need more than a diet program; we need a program rooted in God’s Word because God’s way to change is from the insight out.

The Take Back Your Temple Christian Weight Loss Program

Here are some benefits of the Take Back Your Temple Christian Weight Loss program:

  • Biblical Foundation: Built on scripture and prayer, the program helps you renew your mind so that food no longer controls you.
  • Whole-Person Healing: Addresses Spiritual, emotional, and physical health together rather than treating symptoms alone.
  • Lifetime Access: Once you join, you have access for life. That means you can return to the lessons any time you need encouragement.
  • Member Transformations: Many members testify that their relationship with God grew stronger while their struggles with emotional eating grew weaker.

Take Back Your Temple member, Dora Hill, shares her success story of overcoming emotional eating and releasing excess weight:

While there are other Christian wellness options available, most do not focus specifically on emotional eating. That is what makes Take Back Your Temple unique; it is designed for believers who want to overcome food struggles through faith, not fad diets.

Christian Authors Offering Guides and Courses

Books and devotionals are powerful tools when you are seeking change. They can help you renew your mind daily, stay encouraged, and remind you of God’s promises.

Kimberly Taylor’s Resources:

  • Overcoming Emotional Eating God’s Way: A practical guide to breaking food strongholds through Biblical truth.
  • Anxiety Relief Scriptures: Scripture-based encouragement for replacing fear with faith.

Beyond books, the Take Back Your Temple program also offers courses and devotionals that go deeper into application. These resources provide daily steps you can take to change your habits, strengthen your faith, and build resilience against temptation.

Online Communities for Christians Struggling with Emotional Eating

Breaking free from emotional eating is not a journey you were meant to take alone. Accountability, encouragement, and prayer support make a world of difference.

The Take Back Your Temple Community:

  • Faith-Centered Support: Members encourage one another with scripture, prayer, and testimonies of victory.
  • Safe and Supportive Environment: Unlike secular groups, this community centers on Christ, ensuring that your healing is rooted in faith rather than just willpower.

Many people searching for help ask, “Are there online communities for Christians dealing with emotional eating?” The answer is yes and the Take Back Your Temple community is one of the most encouraging, Biblically grounded groups available.

Conclusion: Finding Lasting Freedom

If you are seeking Christian emotional eating help, three things will support your success:

  1. The right program that addresses emotional eating at its root.
  2. The right teaching through Biblical guides and courses.
  3. The right community that provides accountability and encouragement.

The Take Back Your Temple ministry brings all three together. It is more than a weight loss program; it is a spiritual journey to freedom.

See Yourself as God Sees You

Break free from rejection and identity wounds. Learn how to honor God in body and spirit through faith-based transformation.

Enough is enough

When ‘Enough is Enough’ (Christian Weight Loss)

Ever been unhappy about a situation, but it persisted anyway?

Reaching your “Enough is enough!” point makes all the difference in making permanent change.

Let me explain.

A couple of years ago, I received an email from a lady who had not reached her “Enough is enough” point yet.

She wrote:

I still have a great problem with my weight. Suffering from hypothyroid and high blood pressure. I need to do something, but I am too busy.”

“I am too busy” was the clue that “Enough is enough!” was not there.

Whatever was making her “too busy” was more important to her at that time than dealing with her weight, high blood pressure, and hypothyroidism.

I define ‘ Enough is enough meaning’ as an unwillingness to keep tolerating an intolerable situation – enough to take consistent action to change it!

Many years ago, I reached that point concerning my health. I decided that ‘I am enough’ to change. But more about that later.

A Biblical Example of Enough is Enough

An example of someone in the Bible who finally reaches their “Enough!” point is that of Pharaoh and the frogs in Exodus 8:1-15.

The plague of frogs was one of 10 plagues God sent against Egypt to get Pharaoh to release His people from slavery.

God made frogs come out of the river to cover Egypt. Frogs came into the Egyptians’ homes, their bedrooms, on their beds, into their ovens, their kneading bowls and even covered the people.

Ewww!

Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron to him, requesting that they ask the Lord to take the frogs away. Moses asked Pharaoh when he should intercede for him.

Guess what Pharaoh said? Tomorrow!

See? Pharaoh had not had his fill of frogs, so he was willing to live with them another day.

He had not reached his “Enough!”

I can tell you the exact date I reached my “Enough!” point regarding my weight. It was December 11, 2003.

I was 240 pounds. Although I was unhappy about weighing that much, I was willing to live with it.

Maintaining my current lifestyle habits was more important to me than dealing with my weight at the time.

I wasn’t willing to change what I ate, nor was I willing to exercise permanently.

But then that chest pain hit me. I was only 38 years-old and in that moment, I thought I was going to die. That was “Enough!” for me.

I valued my life.

When God said “It is not supposed to be this way” in the midst of that pain, I grabbed onto the hope He offered me like a lifeline. I had a doctor’s appointment card and I wrote on the back of it: “Today is the day I turn my life around.”

Pain was what it finally took for Pharaoh to change too. The frogs were only plague #2. It took him getting to #10 that did it.

Here is a recap of all the pain he endured before and after that. Pharaoh was not only hard-hearted, but hardheaded!

1. Water to Blood – Not Enough

2. Frogs – Not Enough

3. Lice – Not Enough

4. Flies – Not Enough

5. Livestock Diseased – Not Enough

6. Boils – Not Enough

7. Thunder and Hail – Not Enough

8. Locusts – Not Enough

9. Darkness – Not Enough

10. Death of His Firstborn Son – Enough!

It was only when the plague hit something Pharaoh cared about, that he valued, that he reached “Enough!” The sign of his “Enough!” was taking action; he finally let God’s people go!

Uncovering your ‘Enough!’ Point

Regarding your current health habits, are you happy with the results they are bringing into your life? If not, then make a list of all the negative consequences you are enduring because of them currently.

Then write by each item on your list either “Not Enough” or “Enough!”

Only the ones you judge “Enough!” are strong enough to motivate you to change for good. They are the only ones strong enough to help you endure when challenges come.

I have discovered that if you have a strong, heart-felt “Enough!” (your ‘why am I doing this’ answer), then you are willing take consistent action to succeed, in spite of challenges along the way.

So ask yourself, “Have I reached my “Enough!” yet?”

7 Simple Rules for Christian Healing

Have you noticed that many prayer requests are for failing health in our churches? Many people do not know that the Bible is filled with Christian healing scriptures that support health.

God wants his people to be healthy in every way – Spiritually, mentally, and physically.

Christian healing

Here are my seven simple rules for Christian healing to restore and maintain good health.

1. Seek Jesus Out. In most instances of healing in the Bible, the sick person went directly to Jesus for healing or someone else sought him on their behalf if they were unable to go for themselves.

Two blind men even followed Jesus into the house he was staying, crying out for him to heal them! A woman with an issue of blood fought through crowds just to touch the hem of his garment, confident that doing so would heal her.

If you need Christian healing, how often are you seeking Jesus out through prayer?

Are you acknowledging Him as you go about your daily life?

Don’t leave your healing to chance; stick to the one who can heal you like glue.

2. Exercise Your Faith. Jesus always healed in response to faith. In the story about the two blind men (Matthew 9:27-30), Jesus asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”

When they responded that they believed, He said: “According to your faith let it be to you.” Then he touched their eyes and they were opened.

However, Jesus could not heal most people in His own country.

Why?

Because they were offended at Him and were unbelieving. Matthew 13:57-58 records what happened:

But Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.’  Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.”

If you are having difficulty believing that Jesus can heal you, then humble yourself and pray “Lord, help my unbelief!” Strive to act according to your faith, not your fears. See yourself healthy, healed, and whole.

In addition, read stories and listen to scriptures of Christian healing in the Bible to strengthen your faith.

3. Eat with Wisdom. The Bible warns us that whatever a man sows, that he reaps. The food you eat literally becomes your flesh, blood, and bones. Daniel chapter 1 is a great example of this fact.

In the story, Daniel purposed in his heart not to eat the king’s rich food but instead asked for vegetables and water. His desire was to honor God through obedience. Then, he requested his appearance be examined after 10 days.

When Daniel was re-examined, it was found that he looked better and healthier when compared with those who ate the rich food.

While you don’t need to eat only vegetables and water, a balanced diet rich in vegetables, fruit, lean protein, healthy fats and modest amounts of whole grains should be your goal to supply your body with the vitamins and minerals it needs to generate energy and support health.

God-made foods also support emotional stability.

Your body is only as healthy as the building materials you give it to work with. Poor building materials yield poor health, just as poor building materials create structural problems in a house.

4. Exercise Diligently. Proverbs 21:25 says:

He who is slothful in his work is a brother to him who is a great destroyer.”

Consider taking care of your health as just part of your purpose. Aim to be a good steward over the body God has given you by exercising regularly as you are able.

Jesus and the disciples had no choice but to walk everywhere they wanted to go. Our ancestors didn’t have a choice either – if they didn’t hunt or harvest food, they did not eat.

However, we do have a choice – we can be diligent with exercise or live in idleness. But with each choice you sow, a reaping will come; please choose wisely.

5. Consider your Meditation and Words. Are you speaking life or death to yourself? If you are talking about how sick you are consistently, all you do is discourage yourself and encourage “dis-ease.” Instead encourage yourself and speak as if you are already healed. Build up your faith with Christian healing scriptures.

Release anger and unforgiveness from your heart. Encourage others and strive to be pleasant in your dealings with them. Proverbs 16:23-24 advises:

The heart of the wise teaches his mouth,
And adds learning to his lips.
Pleasant words are like a honeycomb,
Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

6. Laugh Often. Wisdom from Proverbs states: “A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.” Do you know what the best thing to laugh at is? Your problems! After all, there is nothing too hard for God.

So when you are faced with a problem, say “God I don’t know what you are going to do about this, but I can’t wait to see how you are going to get me out of this one!”

Buy a clean joke book, watch comedy programs and movies that you enjoy. Cultivate the ability to laugh at yourself and your own mistakes. Strive to fill your heart with laughter every day.

7. Walk in obedience. Ensuring that you are always walking in step with God’s will for your life is the best health insurance policy! Take the ultimate Christian healing scripture to heart:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the LORD and depart from evil.
It will be health to your flesh,
And strength to your bones.

May you practice each of these 7 rules and reap an abundant harvest of health and healing! Also, check out this Christian healing prayer or Short health prayer for encouragement today.

Restoring God’s Temple

If you are having difficulty releasing excess weight, consider the word ”restoration.” Your body may be in healing mode!

When your body is under restoration, it may prioritize internal systems repair plus balance to heal, energize, and nourish itself.

“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well (Psalm 139:14).”

Your job is to support the restoration process in your Christian weight loss goals, knowing that your body will reach its ideal size in due season as you do your part every day.

Consider your body as a temple under restoration, not a temple condemned!

Body Recovery Issues

Here are some issues your body may be experiencing now or recovering from.

1. Nutritional Starvation: If you eat a diet that favors processed foods and sweets but provides little nourishment for your body, then your body lacks key nutrients necessary to keep itself in M.I.N.T condition.

Your body will prioritize building itself up nutritionally to support critical functions once you give it the proper building materials with which to work:

  • Metabolism – Your body’s energy factory, which converts the food you eat into energy for you to minister, work, exercise, parent, etc.
  • Immune Function – Your body’s defense department, which fights against sickness and disease
  • Nerve Strength – Your body’s communication network, which enables your brain to communicate with your body
  • Tissue Growth and Repair – Your body’s repair crew, which builds muscles and heals damaged tissue

2. Sleep Deprivation: This happens if you habitually get less than 7-8 hours of sleep each night.

3. Stress Captivation: This happens if you are either putting unnecessary performance pressure on yourself or life circumstances are stressing you out.

You must address all 3 issues with care every day. Remember, these issues are about restoration, not condemnation.

Review Psalm 23 when stressed. We are meant to live in peace with the Lord as our Shepherd. I don’t believe the Lord meant for us to live in a pressure cooker.

He restores our soul.

Are you recovering from or experiencing nutritional starvation, sleep deprivation, or stress captivation?

Restoration projects are hard work! Some old things must come out while new things are brought in and arranged properly.

But isn’t it wonderful to see the finished work? Whatever steps you take each day, they add up over time.

Roll up your sleeves. It’s Restoration Time!

The Prayer that Changes Everything

After my prayer time nearly 20 years ago, God revealed a remarkable thing to me.

He told me the true meaning of the name “Take Back Your Temple.”

God gave me the name about a year after I started my own healing journey.

At the time, I thought of the name as just a challenge to people of faith to take back their bodies, health, and lives.

But He told me that I was wrong. It was much more than that.

“Take Back Your Temple” is a prayer.

The name is meant as an individual’s cry unto Him. It is asking God to take control of your body and your life so He can use them for His purpose and agenda.

It is the submission of your will to His will. You recognize that God loves you and His plans for you are better than you have for yourself.

You view your body as God’s temple and invite Him in to care for it as such.

You don’t live out of your own strength. You live from His.

  • If you are struggling with your weight right now, then simply ask God to: “Take Back Your Temple.”
  • If you are struggling with destructive habits, simply pray to the Lord in the midst of it: “Take Back Your Temple.”
  • If you are struggling with fear, doubt, depression, stress, worry, or anxiety then invite God into the situation: “Take Back Your Temple.”

I believe that if you pray that simple, powerful four-word prayer with a sincere heart and persistence, then it will be answered.

It will be answered based on God’s word that our bodies are His temples, and we therefore are to glorify Him in our bodies and in our spirits (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Please also receive this Prayer for My Body’s Care that will help you to focus on specific choices, day-by-day.

Please listen to God’s wisdom and put it into practice, day-by-day, step-by-step as you grow closer to Him on the journey.

May you take this message to heart, apply it in your own life, and forever be blessed!

Be blessed in health, healing, and wholeness,

Kimberly Taylor
